If you are looking for ways to get traffic to your website or product sales page, then I have a solution which I know works.
Just to give you some background to my reason for the above statement, I was looking at my website stats this morning and wondering why there was a downturn in the number of visitors to my website. I looked at the peak periods of activity to see where my visitors were coming from, the referral links. I was somewhat taken aback by what I found.
About six months ago whilst looking for new accomodation, I came across Gumtree. You may already of heard of it, I used to use it a lot searching the different areas for a suitable flat. Whilst using it for my accomodation searches, I noticed that you could post a free advertisement for pretty much anything you wanted to sell. As I was on the Gumtree site anyway and although my focus was on finding a new place to live, I posted a brief advertisement in my local Gumtree (each major City has it’s own Gumtree). I never thought anymore about it – until now that is!
I spend quite a bit of time trying to promote my website but I do tend to overlook the basics such as checking my stats properly. When I checked the “came from” part of my stats, I could quite clearly see that the one simple free advertisement placed on Gumtree had generated around 120 visitors to my site Wow! The reason for the down turn was quite obvious, in that the ad had dropped off the scheduling within Gumtree (you need to resubmit after 120 days) Now given that this single advertisement was targeted to a local community, it doesn’t take a brilliant mathematician to work out how many visitors one ad would generate if posted in all communities. I have spent the last hour or two first of all writing what I consider to be “great ad” together with a video as apposed to the rushed one I did previously and then submitting the ad to all the available communities.
Gumtree is predominantly UK targeted, but has other communities worldwide including, Australia, Newzealand, South Africa, Poland and Asia. I believe Gumtree also has communities in the USA but under a different name Kijiji and with the same benefits.
Now get this! Gumtree has an affiliate program. Yes that’s right! They pay you to refer others to place Free Advertisements. No catches. You’d be mad to pass this up. Free Advertising = Free Traffic + FreeMoney = Wow!
